You know what time it is, my dear readers…Round 4 of OTOMANIA 2017! ✨ It’s been really fun running this and getting people to talk about the glorious games that are otome games. Thank you all for taking part in this! 💖 Don’t worry if you missed out on voting in the previous rounds; there are still more rounds for you to crown the most DELIGHTFUL otome game in this year’s OTOMANIA! Round 3 is now OVAH, so let’s see which game took the win.
The winner of round 3 is…Kenka Bancho Otome! 🎉 I thought that Clock Zero would put up more of a fight, but fans are just so in love with Kenka Bancho Otome! Spike Chunsoft, see how much people want to play this game? 😉
Kenka Bancho Otome moves on to face Nameless! With both games being amazing, the win could go either way.
The bulk of you might know about Kenka Bancho Otome, but let’s talk about it anyway, because why not?!
For as long as she’s been aware, the heroine, without a single relative, lived under the care of the state. Both of her parents’ faces were unknown to her.
In front of this heroine, a young boy appeared. The young boy’s name was ‘Hikaru’. It appeared that he was the heroine’s twin brother, separated at birth. He had a proposal for the heroine:
“Could you go to school in my place?”
The heroine was shocked by this crazy suggestion. Furthermore this was an all-boys school. The only high school in this prefecture for delinquents.
Hikaru was part of the most ancient and honorable family in the criminal underworld (yakuza), the Onigashima family. Under his father’s strict teachings, the school that he was to attend had been decided. And that school was Shishiku Academy. A high school where all the terrible and wild delinquents were gathered.
Enrolled in this school, a child of the Onigashima family was obligated to occupy and control this school. Hikaru did not want to have anything to do with delinquents. But to defy his father meant death. Hikaru, who learnt about his twin sister who was separated from him at birth, was struck with the idea to send her in his place to this school of delinquents.
Kenka Bancho Otome is a spin-off of…you guessed it, the Kenka Bancho series, taking the setting of high school delinquents, and putting an otome game spin on it. Yeah, sure, purists of the Kenka Bancho series might complain that it’s not the same kind of fighting system as the other games, but the same theme remains, which is what makes it extremely appealing for an otome game. But that’s not all: the art style and the music are incredibly stylish, which gives the game its own identity. Additionally, the characters are fun and memorable. And the heroine? She’s described as someone who “defeats delinquents with fists and femininity.” If you don’t think that’s an awesome description for the heroine of an otome game, please seek help.
You can get Kenka Bancho Otome through sites like CDJapan, Solaris Japan and other shops that sell Japanese region games. Unfortunately, this game is not out in English yet (SOBS 😭), but I’m hoping Spike ChunSoft will deliver some very good news soon…fingers crossed!
Now…it’s time for ROUND 4 of OTOMANIA 2017!
