Touken Ranbu Online to Make Its English Debut!

Starting 2021 with a bang, the beloved Touken Ranbu Online game is finally getting an English version for all to play and enjoy, courtesy of Johren. No, you are not having a fever dream, this is REAL. Touken Ranbu Online English version is FINALLY gonna be a thing on February 23rd!

 

The series recently celebrated its 6th anniversary, and we are getting quite the gift after years of fans asking “So why isn’t there an official English release yet?” despite the game’s wild popularity. If you really think about it, Touken Ranbu is THE series that kinda got the whole figure and goods world to shift their focus to market their products to women. And the results were incredible, though it was to be expected, given how high in demand those products were (and still are).

Those who aren’t in the know might be asking “So what’s Touken Ranbu about anyway?” Worry not, my dear reader, I’ve got you covered with the details. Johren describes Touken Ranbu as the following:

 

The year is 2205.

Revisionists seeking to change history have begun to attack the past. To prevent such threats, the Chronos Ministry has sent Saniwa to each age. Saniwa, with the power to arouse an objects’ hearts and emotions, could bestow powers to fight and wield themselves. Thus, created as the Tsukumogami, Saniwa flies in the past with Touken Danshi to maintain the true history. The players become the Saniwa, and will materialize the Touken Danshi, the famous swords taken the forms of honorable warriors. Gather eight types of Touken — Tanto, Wakizashi, Uchigatana, Tachi, Otachi, Naginata, Yari and Tsurugi. Create your own unique battalion and prevent the history revisionists from changing the past. Touken Ranbu Online is a collect-and-raise simulation game featuring Touken Danshi, the historical swords. Don’t miss the conversations between Touken Danshi, too! Head into battle with Touken Danshi at your side!

Coolant, Whetstone, Charcoal, Steel, Request Tokens, and Help Tokens are all resources that players can use when smithing or repairing swords. Each sword type will require different amounts of these resources, so as you play, make sure you keep gathering these! The Omamori are used to prevent swords from being destroyed in battle, so this is pretty handy to have. And the Horses can be equipped to the swords to boost their current stats.
