Tokimeki Radio Episode 1 – Hello, World!

Several of you have been waiting for this…and the time has FINALLY come! Without further ado….here is the very first episode of Tokimeki Radio! 🎊 🎉🎊

Since starting this blog, I’ve met a lot of wonderful people who are as passionate about otome games through comments in my blog and following through several conversations on otome games in Twitter, and that’s been GREAT! 🎵 Those conversations motivated me to be a bit more involved and create something that’s not really common: a podcast centered on otome games. This is a VERY NEW world for me, because I have not made anything of the sort before, so I’m wandering into unknown territory. However, I feel like I’d like to talk to even more people about these lovely games that we all enjoy a whole lot, and perhaps this will have farther reach when paired with my musings on this blog. With with my partner in crime, Verde, we will talk about otome games released all over the world along with any news-worthy topic that might be circling around the community at the moment. This is just the beginning of a very new road for both me and Verde, so we hope you enjoy this episode of Tokimeki Radio! ✨ Feel free to leave any feedback or suggestions below on what you’d like to hear in future episodes.

On this first episode, we talked about our humble beginnings with the visual novel and otome game genres that we grew to love today. We also talked about otome games released on February, which include English games, Japanese games, and a very special Chinese game! Also on this show we discussed the much-talked about Beastmaster and Prince Kickstarter Campaign and our thoughts on it. And finally, we talked about game we’ve recently played to completion along with games we’re currently playing (with the bonus topic of anime based on otome games!). If any of that sounds like your cup of tea, please give our show a listen! Thank you all so much for your support. 💖

Several things to note, this was recorded on February 22nd, so some info on the Beastmaster Kickstarter campaign and on the Love in the Glen Steam Greenlight is just a bit outdated. I also had to deal with podcasting HELL because of a really nasty mishap I had to fix…but from that error, a lot was learned for future episodes, so I’m all the better for it! As always, thank you all so much for listening, and please look forward to the next episode coming soon on March!

Until next time, see ya! ✨

Okay first of all… I loved listening to every minute of the podcast!! ^__^ And yes School days was very fascinating! Nice Boat Makoto~
Higurashi was, to my knowledge, my first horror esque show that I had every watched so its good to hear people talk about it ^_^ And then Umineko is my current obsession right now ❤
Overall I enjoyed listening to you guys speak about so many topics! 🙂 Like of course mentioning Code realize because it is sooo good and then Impey and Saint-Germain ❤
Uguuuu cage of love ❤ Haha but looking forward to seeing you guys playing Tei's route 🙂
    Great job ladies ^__^

Ahh, thanks so much, Ali! ❤

I feel like Higurashi and Umineko are great series to think about topics like alternate timelines or how different characters perceive a topic or a particular existence. It makes for good conversations! Who's your favorite Umineko character so far?

Yes, we'll be working on Nameless when Verde gets back from her trip…so look forward to that! :3

        Welcome! ^__^
Umineko and Higurashi messed me up with all the alternate timelines that I had to sit and just think about what was going on. Very fascinating and yeah it does make a good topic to discuss 🙂 Uhhh my favorite character is hard to pinpoint, they are all so fascinating, but uhh I am gonna go with Beatrice ^^ Her whole existence is a mystery and just her whole being is complicated, but at the same time not really, if that makes sense haha. But I do like them all, they are all just so fascinating to see how they interact in the story. Who is your favorite?
Yay! Can’t wait to see you guys in action again especially because it is the Yandere character :3 and we know how Verde is with them hee hee ^__^ Should be very interesting

Beatrice is an interesting choice, because for the whole series, the characters spend their time trying to pinpoint who Beatrice is and what kind of existence they actually have. I don’t know if you finished playing all the games yet, so I won’t go too deep into that conversation just yet, haha. As for my favorite characters, I love Bernkastel and Lambdadelta the best! ❤

Yeah, I haven’t gotten that far in the games, but I am reading the manga version so I get some things ^^ I do enjoy Bernkastel and Lambdadelta as well, their dynamic is interesting 😊

Ahhh, yes, do play the games as well! There are some things the games do better than the manga, although the manga is incredibly well-done!

I will be here…waiting…for whenever you want to discuss Beatrice or anything Umineko/Higurashi-related! :3

Alright I will definitely get onto playing the games! :3 Im gonna have to brush up on my Higurashi/Umineko thoughts, since its been a while for Higurashi, but yes definitely we should talk about Beatrice and just the whole 2 shows in general because they need to be discussed! So looking forward to that 💖

Aside from not being able to hear Elly’s voice here and there, I really enjoyed the podcast. I like the you have both English and Japanese release, while having a background in playing multiple types of VN’s and otoges in both languages. Your discussion were small and get me excited over what will you talk about in the next episode. Personally, I also felt my favorites weren’t looked down upon because I have so much in common with Verde. Great job, can’t wait for March’s episode.

Thanks so much! And yeah…this is the best I could do to fix the horrible audio problems from an erroneous recording. I’ve learned from this, though, and next episodes will go MUCH smoother!

And yeah, we want to focus on all otome games rather than just Japanese releases, that way it feels like there’s more conversation on English indie and Steam releases. And haha, yeah, people have their preferences with certain games and character types, and I’ll have mine; it’s all good! That’s why I’m a bit excited to see how Tei’s route in Nameless turns out, because I’m not much of a yandere girl while Verde is ALL ABOUT THAT, lmao. It’ll be interesting and fun to see how excited Verde gets!

Thanks again for tuning in! ❤ Please look forward to our next episode~

Good luck with the next episode! It’s great that you have decided to focus on indie releases, there doesn’t seem to be much attention on them, when some can be so great to play! I am glad that you and Verde seem so open-minded about characters, I say does because sometimes I feel like others look down on characters I might like, so I was really happy Verde liked Impey!

I look forward to see you and Verde going through Tei’s route, it’s an intersting route though he isn’t my favorite character from Nameless.

We figured…the more otome games, the better, right? So giving indie releases some love makes sense! 🙂 And yeah, I mean, we all have our preferences that others might not agree with (like I hate Toma A LOT), but I’m not gonna hold it against people, since after all, it’s their own tastes just like we have ours.

And yeah, we’ll probably get started recording that next week…so it’ll be up SOON! 😀

It’s funny how we all reached otome games from different starts, it makes us a group of varied tastes and likes.

My first visual novel was Tsukihime, if I remember correctly, because I’d watched the anime. I couldn’t get into Fate/Stay Night VN though, when I discovered how big it was I lost interest xD

But the game that really hooked me was Higurashi ;P I watched the anime and I wanted more, I remember playing the first episode because it was the demo and fan translated, and how excited I was when MangaGamer decided to localise it (☆^O^☆)

(Confession, never seen School Days nor played it, even though I like visual novels like Corpse Party >_< and I didn't get into Hakuoki at all, but did get into Sweet Fuse)

I started gaming in RPG but I always played them for the story (at the start I couldn't understand English and so I played them because my brother played heh) so I think it was very natural for me to gravitate to VN when I didn't enjoy grinding nor levelling up. VN was the undiluted story I so liked in RPG without all the cumbersome fighting and forced grinding. My favorire VN tend to be with some gameplay though, which is why I enjoyed Corpae Party, Ace Attorney, Danganronpa so much. It was interactive but still fun.

I know a lot of people couldn't get into Higurashi or Umineko because of the art, which always made me puzzle. The remakes of both series have pretty bland art, and the backgrounds tends to have problems from what I've seen. Maybe it's that I got used to Ryuukishi's art, but I felt it melded very well with the backgrounds and his troll faces are the best ever xD

Funnily enough, I haven't been able to get into Rose Gun Days at all. Higanbana was deeply psychological and I hope 07th keeps going down that route since it interests me (I'm selfish I know haha)

Sorry! I babbled. I don't even know why I said all this. I think I was trying to reach somewhere but end up forgetting what I wanted to say /facedesks

Lovely start for your podcast and I really enjoyed it! (★^O^★)

Ok, I will reply to every bit of this, so I hope you’re ready!

I think that’s what’s so wonderful about the discourse that we fellow fans can have: we get to hear how we got into these things and perhaps discover something we haven’t played before that we might want to give a try or maybe that your beginnings were very similar! That’s why I want to reach out to hear different experiences; it’s so interesting to hear these!

Haha, we started in opposite ends for Type-Moon games! You haven’t been the only one to say that F/SN is so long that it was off-putting. There a lot of story packed into that game! I don’t mind long VNs, but recently I have to try and plan to play those on a day off, a holiday or the weekend.

A lot of people got their start in Higurashi through the anime, and that’s wonderful, because when season 1 ended, there were plenty of questions that people were left with. The anime, while it was studio DEEN and its quality is…yeah, lol, the pacing was really well-done on it, and the voice actors were amazing! I remember as I was playing through the games, how I told friends that Takano was a big part of it, and they laughed at me until we played through all the games, lol. Good times!

Corpse Party is FANTASTIC! And while the latest one out isn’t that great, it’s still worth a play for fans of the previous games. And omg yes, Sweet Fuse is SO GOOD. I hope we got more people interested in playing it!

Text-heavy videogames helped me learn English, tbh. The first RPG I played was Pokemon, and that helped my vocabulary a lot. From there on, I kept getting RPGs because I figured they’d have the most text in them compared to other games. The more I played, the more ahead I was of my class, hilariously enough! Also, high five for having A+ tastes in games! I adore Corpse Party, Ace Attorney and Danganronpa sooo much! ❤

I feel like Ryuukishi’s art adds a bit more mystery and horror to the game, especially when the character’s faces distorts in the most dramatic scenes. People are seriously missing out if they don’t experience that!

I haven’t played Higanbana, and I seriously need to. I’ve heard so many good things about it! And likewise, I haven’t played Rose Gun Days, but for that one, I haven’t heard much about. The manga is currently out by Yen Press over here, so I’m curious about that.
It’s okay! I like reading stuff like this, so feel free to talk away! Thank you so much for listening to our first episode. Please look forward to our next one! ❤

I’m ready! ❤ (and sorry for the wall of text haha ;_;)
F/SN also has porn, and back then there wasn't a patch like there was for Tsukihime (yup, skipped the sex scenes and didn't miss anything tbh) so I ended not feeling very attracted to a huge VN that had a lot of sex scenes ORZ
Oh man, I didn't know how bad the anime was until I played the game. They completely also flaked out in explaining the plot and just shrugged it off (which was even worse in the anime (・∀・))
        CP is a really good gateway into VN, since it has gameplay and eases you in ❤ I'm still playing Book of Shadows ;_;
        Yes, Sweet Fuse love! (◍•ᴗ•◍)❤
I played Final Fantasy 7/8/9, Sonic Adventure and Shenmue without understanding them (Final Fantasy 10 I was better but I didn't understand it all) but I still loved them and ended up becoming good at English because of them (just don't ask me to speak, my Portuguese accent shows so much x'''''D )
I never played Pokémon. I had Sega consoles and then Sony, my first Nintendo is my DS (I bought it because of Ghost Trick and Ace Attorney tbh xD)
My English by 13 was so advanced, even today people get surprised I read books in English, can write in it and speak when younger kids can't (which I'm WTF about tbh)
Aww thanks! /high five You have stellar taste too! (´∀`)♡
The game that impacted me so much and really gripped me so much even though it has sex scenes and is so fucked up is Saya no Uta and made me a huge Nitro+ fan. I sadly couldn't play Steins;Gate or Chaos;Head :/
        Omg, did you ever play Yo-Jin-Bo? I think for sure it was my first otome game! I always forget it haha ;_;

I'm sorry, I got long winded again x'DD

I don’t mind sex scenes, but there were various scenes in both Tsukihime and F/SN that were…not great, so I quickly clicked through those. The Tsukihime anime is so bad, that the joke in the community is that it doesn’t even exist. Whenever someone mentions it, another person goes “What anime? There isn’t a Tsukihime anime, what are you even talking about?” 😄

It’s so cool to see other people who started picking up English through games! It’s proof that games are more than just things that allow you to have fun.

God, there was this time when me and my friends were trying to have a conversation in English to practice what we know, and they started laughing at me because they didn’t think “lunatic” was a word used in English…and I was like “wow, y’all are dumb as hell,” LOL! I kinda shudder to think what English classes are like in PR now…probably still not that great.

OMG Saya no Uta is AMAZING! Back when I bought it, I just thought the cover looked cool….I HAD NO IDEA, LOL! Steins;Gate is pretty amazing as well! It’s available on the Vita and PS3, so it’s even easier to get now.

And no…I haven’t played Yo-Jin-Bo. What do you think of that game? Is it worth playing? I’m kinda making a list of stuff to play, so I may add that to it!

Oh yeah, I’ve heard a bunch about the sex scenes on Type-Moon games sound like the dude doesn’t know what sex feels like. I even saw a few compilations that left me WTF tbh >_<
I like the Tsukihime anime because it introduced me to the game, which is what it was supposed to do heh
Oh definitely! I'm now learning Japanese coupling games with Memrise and I say games definitely teach so much, it's crazy!
I think people who aren't good at English are because they don't even try. My mom can understand some English, she's never studied, but just being exposed with subtitles worked wonders (I'm the same with Japanese, I picked a bunch of the language from anime xD )
You have stellar taste if you like Saya __<
Oh, oh, oh! Zero Escape series: 9 hours, 9 doors, 9 people and Virtue's Last Reward are really good VN! (I don't know if you played them though hah)

Yeah…Nasu, uh…managed to write some QUALITY sex scenes, LOL! 😂

Memrise? I haven’t heard of that; is it a program or a site? Enlighten me!

Yeah, if people put in some effort, they’d find that it’s not impossible to learn a whole new language! It’s amazing what people are capable of if they at least tried.

I played 999, but I haven’t played Virtue’s Last Reward yet, even though I have it. It’s in my backlog…I really should get to it! 😣

        March 2, 2016 at 1:18 pm

I’m sure Nasu has never had sex or he did it on purpose to creep people out ಠ_ಠ
Memrise is a website and also an app like Anki, but I consider it better because it’s prettier xD I did a blog post about it too (☆^O^☆)
Mindset is really important for learning languages. If the person keeps saying they can’t learn, they won’t (⌒_⌒;)
Oh then maybe wait till Zero Escape 3 comes out so you can play it fresh? ( ´ ▽ ` )ノ

Yeah, I have no idea, lmao! I wonder where he got his ideas from in order to do those scenes…

Oh, I’ll check out that blog post for more info then! I might dl that app.

And yeah, if people constantly say that they “can’t do something,” then it’ll become reality. People have more power than they think they do.

I might just do that, so I can marathon both games! 😀

It’s really interesting hearing about yours and Verde’s otoge/VN playing origins, and being generally new to otoges/VNs this podcast was pretty enlightening on some titles that I’d only briefly heard of. I’m actually pretty interested in School Days now because LOL WHAT IS THAT ENDING OMG.

My first official otome game was Hakuouki, but Verde’s mention of Persona 4 is actually quite understandable, as it was actually Persona 3 Portable’s dating sim element that got me interested in dating sims to begin with. It’s also interesting to hear that Verde got a PSP specifically for Hakuouki, because my PS Vita was purchased for the sole purpose of being a Persona 4 Golden/Dancing All Night and otome game machine tbh lol.

I enjoyed listening to you two discuss various games and upcoming titles, as well as discussing the importance of the Beastmaster and Prince kickstarter and talking about otome game anime adaptations (which are yeah, generally bad, but I’ve heard nothing but good things about the Prince of Stride anime). Anyway, I’m looking forward to hearing more from you both! ^_^

If you want me to rec titles based on what kind of games you like, I’d be happy to do that! :3 As a heads-up, note that School Days has plenty of sex scenes in it, and they’re…alright, lol. Like I said, I mostly played for the juicy bad ends, LOL! An interesting feature on School Days, btw, is that your selections are TIMED, so you can’t take forever trying to pick a choice! But yeah, the bad endings are DELICIOUS.

Yeah, I’ve played VNs before playing Persona 3 and 4, but the social links aspect really reminded me of the choices you’d make in a VN, so I really liked that mode! The PSP and Vita are VNs and otome games consoles, and I love it! I kinda want to buy a second Vita, since I’m kinda using my current one a whole lot. Might get the cute blue one as a back-up Vita. ✨

Thank you so much for listening! We’ll have more good stuff on the way! ❤

Hello~ We are the devs of Uh Ah! Capybara, stopping by to say hi!

Thank you for giving our game a try and even featuring it in your podcast! It is a pleasant surprise since we were not expecting to see it mentioned anywhere in English as of yet 😛

Really enjoyed your podcast — we were laughing so hard at the *cough* nipple reaction *cough* hahaha.

Truth be told we are still working on the Chinese version, but we will get to the English translation ASAP. We will keep you posted! 🙂

PS. We will be responding to the other post as well (like right away).

Ah, hello! Thank you for stopping by and listening to our podcast!

We happened to find Uh Ah! Capybara while we were searching for visual novels that were released in the month of February, so we decided to give it a try and it was pretty interesting. We really want to know who the Capybara guy is, haha! And yes, the nipples caught us off guard and we were talking about that for a while, LOL! 😀

Since you’ve seen the other blog post, I will respond to you comment over there with our concerns. Once again, thanks for stopping by! ❤
